NICEM
has secured funding from the Community Foundation NI, and
the EU program for peace and reconciliation to deliver a training
program for black and ethnic minority individuals. As part
of our ongoing Ethnic Minorities Capacity Training and Development
this the first time we are delivering this advocacy skills
course in the Northwest area. The aim of the program is to
empower local communities and the increase the effectiveness
of access to health services for marginalized minority groups.
Advocacy
involves helping people who are socially excluded to access
the statutory services that they need and have a right to
receive. With a focus on the area of health this course aims
to help equip participants with the skills and knowledge to
be an effective advocate.
Whilst
not exclusive to ethnic minorities or bilingual individuals
this training is aimed at supporting minority ethnic communities
and those professionals currently working with them. Preference
will be given to suitable individuals actively engaged in
working to support minority ethnic communities in the North
West .
The
training program is structured into three elements:
- A Specialised Health
Service
- Advocacy and Cultural
Mediation in the health Service
- Advocacy / Mediation
skills and Practices
