The Health and Communities Committee of Derry City and Strabane District Council invited young people supported by NICEM to make a presentation on 16th June 2016. Three members of Kabalikat in North West and one member of Kerala Association, along with two members of Dennett Interchange, made a presentation on their proposal for an intercultural, shared space Youth Hub project and a social economy gym and healthy living project. They also discussed issues they are facing related to racism, sectarianism, education, employment opportunities and the local economy. The Councillors present congratulated the young people on a very articulate and well-organised presentation and expressed their full support for the work. Following the meeting, the young people met with Council staff responsible for the European Youth Capital 2019 bid. They discussed ways to join up the work the young people were already doing with the EYC19 project, as well as future opportunities to consult on other Council initiatives, including Peace IV and community planning.
